What we are doing to upgrade our website to improve accessibility and security for customers.

Weighbridge operator

Operators of public weighbridges need to hold a certificate of competence issued by the Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures. This ensures that they can perform their duties competently and honestly. No one can operate public weighing equipment unless he or she holds a certificate.

Certificates can be obtained after performing a basic test. Tests are conducted by virtue of the Weights and Measures Act 1985.

How to apply

To arrange a test please complete the Public weighbridge operator application form​​​​​​​ (Word doc, 8 MB) and return it to us by post or in person:

Opening Hours

Monday - Thursday: 8.30am - 5pm

Friday: 8.30am - 4pm

How much will it cost?

The current fee for a certificate is determined on application as recommended by the Local Authorities Co-ordinators of Regulatory Services (LACORS).

What happens next?

Once the application form has been received an officer from Cardiff Trading Standards will contact you direct to arrange a time and date for testing to take place.
