You can apply for a professional carer permit if you:
- are a carer employed in the care sector, and
- need a permit to park while looking after residents that live within parking zones.
The permit is digital and linked to your vehicle's registration, so you do not need to display it.
How to apply for a professional carer permit
Only carers can apply for a permit. The person that you care for cannot apply on your behalf.
When you apply, you will need to upload proof of:
- How the vehicle is linked to you. For example, a V5C or insurance document.
- Employment. For example, a contract or works badge.

How to use the permit
You will get a confirmation email once your permit application is approved.
You can then use the MiPermit app to register your vehicle for a 2-hour parking stay in the parking zone where you are providing care.
Information on where you can and cannot park can be found in the terms and conditions of your permit.
You will need to activate your permit every time you park, otherwise you may get a parking fine.
Your permit is valid for up to 2 hours after the start time, and you can have more than 1 active permit at a time.
Professional carer permits are designed to allow home visits to patients. They must not be used for:
- personal use,
- daily parking, or
- commuter parking.
You do not have to live in Cardiff to apply. However, you must provide domiciliary care to residents of the city as part of your job.
