Listed Buildings
There are around 1,000 listed buildings in Cardiff. You can find out if a building is listed on a map.
Buildings are given a listing by Cadw to ensure that their special architectural or historic interest is fully recognised in the planning system. Listed Building Consent (PDF 47 KB) is needed when a proposed alteration or extension affects the character of a listed building, or those in its curtilage. A Heritage Impact Statement is required for all Listed Building Consent applications.
Remember: It is a criminal offence to carry out such works to a listed building without first acquiring the necessary Listed Building Consent.
Cadw regularly survey the condition of listed buildings. Buildings at Risk (BAR) reports are available for assessments undertaken in Listed Buildings at Risk (BAR) survey results 2011 (PDF, 4 MB) and Listed Buildings at Risk (BAR) survey results 2015 (PDF, 2 MB).
